The charming region of Umbria, renowned for its delicious food and fine wines, will be the setting of this 4 night/5 day Italian cooking and hiking holiday, tucked away on a delightful, functioning Italian farm, nestled by the surrounding hills and valleys.

In a rural, relaxed atmosphere, you will learn timeless recipes for Umbrian and Mediterranean dishes and create your own beautiful pastas and specialties in the heart of your host’s home.

Covering a wide variety of skills, you will be perfecting pastas, accompanying seasonal sauces, and much more as you learn to cook an entire 4 course family style meal during each cookery lesson - not to forget the perfect desserts to complete them.

In the afternoon, you will head about on walks that will give you a real sense of what the region is about. Each day you will experience a new terrain and path where you will experience breathtaking views, ancient sites and try out Urban Trekking in the city of Perugia.

Your host Raffaella (along with her mother-in-law, family, and farm animals) will be on hand to organise every element of your holiday to ensure you return feeling relaxed and full with mouth watering home Italian cooking, and a great collection of new recipes and techniques to replicate for friends and family.

The farm has 5 tastefully decorated and furnished cosy apartments for 2 people with a double or twin room. Each apartment also has a private bathroom and a living room with a well equipped kitchenette. The farm offers peace and quiet with spectacular panoramic views of Umbria, and is surrounded by vineyards and fruit trees, and a swimming pool for you to enjoy.

- Your hosts are Italian, however so all cooking classes are taught in English

I'm travelling solo - can I join?
- These cookery holidays make great singles holidays and singles are welcome to join an existing group
- Solo travellers can book an apartment for private use for a supplement

When can I start?
- Holidays can start on any day between March and January
- Cooking and hiking holidays are for 4 nights / 5 days
- If you wish to stay for extra nights please email to check availability for your preferred duration and we will do our best to accommodate you
- If dates appear ‘on request’, please email us and we’ll check availability for your preferred day of arrival as quickly as possible

Typical itinerary
The itinerary is for guidance only and is subject to change depending on the group’s needs and wishes but is typically as follows:

Day 1 - Arrival
- Arrive at the farmhouse in the countryside near Perugia for your Italian cooking course
- Check in to your accommodation from 4pm to 8pm
- Dinner is not included in the price of the holiday but for your arrival you can organise one of the following options: reserve a private dinner in the farm, send a list of food that you want to find in your apartment where you can prepare your own meal, reserve a private transfer to Perugia city centre and dine in a restaurant

Day 2 - Cooking lesson & the Monte Pacciano loop - 11km - 3.5 hours - Difficulty: Medium
- Start your day with breakfast in your apartment from your breakfast pack
- Your cooking lesson begins at 10am with a presentation of the day's menu
- Be prepared to roll up your sleeves for hands-on preparation of a glorious 4-course meal using homegrown fruit and vegetables, fresh organic eggs and their own extra virgin olive oil
- When you have finished cooking, it is time to enjoy all the delicious food you have prepared as you sit down to eat lunch with the other participants accompanied by the wine and extra virgin olive oil that is produced at the farmhouse
- Lunch is then followed by local liquors and coffee
- After lunch, you set off on your hike from the farmhouse up to the crest of Monte Pacciano where you can take in magnificent views

Day 3 - Cooking lesson & trekking of the acient Roman Aqueduct - 5km - 300m Ascent
- After breakfast, your cooking lesson begins at 10am with a presentation of the day's menu
- When you have finished cooking, it is time to enjoy all the delicious food you have prepared
- Lunch is then followed by local liquors and coffee
- After lunch, on your hike today, ascend 300 metres to admire the view of the valley below Foligno before viewing the aqueduct and castle of Collepino

Day 4 - Cooking lesson & urban trekking in Perugia
- After breakfast, your cooking lesson begins at 10am with a presentation of the day's menu
- When you have finished cooking, it is time to enjoy all the delicious food you have prepared
- Lunch is then followed by local liquors and coffee
- After lunch, indulge in a little urban trekking around the beautiful historic city of Perugia, winding through its narrow streets and discovering its hidden secrets
Day 5 - Departure
- Following breakfast, you will check out from your accommodation at 10am

About your host
- Your teacher is also your host, Raffaella, who was born and raised in Perugia in central Italy
- Her passion for cooking is rooted in the Italian and Mediterranean tradition of cooking as a group with your family in the home
- In her classes, Raffaella shares her traditional recipes with you, as well as her vegetarian specialties
- She will guide you through the preparation of simple but delicious Italian recipes and reveal some of her culinary secrets along the way for you to take home and share
- Her cooking approach can be wrapped up in 3 words; simple, seasonal, and local
- Her mother in law plays a special role on the farm, as she makes her own wine and olive oil, and tends to the garden - she is a great asset to all guests

Where am I staying?
- 'La volpe e l'uva' is a little corner of paradise just 4 kilometres from the historic center of Perugia
- Quiet, peaceful oasis, an ideal place to relax and unwind surrounded by the Umbrian hills, valleys and medieval villages
- The property consists of 10 hectares of olive groves, vineyards and orchards
- Five renovated, lovely two room apartments (named Rocco, Riding, Fico, Oca and Paulownia)
- Each apartment is furnished in simple, authentic Umbrian style
- Bedrooms are tastefully decorated with handmade beds in either wrought-iron or wood
- Apartments are equipped with heating, hair dryers and free WiFi
- Each apartment has a living space with a well equipped kitchenette and a double sofa bed, a double or twin bedroom and a bathroom
- Communal garden and each apartment has its own area, equipped with table and chairs to have lunch or dinner al fresco
- The cooking holiday includes accommodation based on two people sharing a double room in an apartment with a private bathroom
- If you are travelling solo, stay in a twin/double room for sole occupancy for a small supplement
- Swimming pool for all to use with a lovely panoramic view
- Accommodation is included for 4 nights/5 days
- Check in from 4pm to 8pm and check out before 10:00am

- This holiday has 2 ground floor apartments; one is equipped with a bathroom for disabled access
- There are some small steps in the main house where the cooking classes are held

Are meals included?
- All breakfasts are included and will be stocked in your apartment
- A 4 course meal for lunch on days 2 to 4 with wine followed by liquors and coffee
- Your dinners will be up to you; you can either cook for yourself and friends in your Umbrian apartment, or have a local dinner in town
- If you have dietary requests, these must be communicated to us at the time of booking

What can I do in my free time?
- Relax and enjoy the surroundings of the farmhouse, or take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool
- The proximity to Perugia makes the farm’s position ideal for visiting other artistic towns in Umbria, such as Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto and the Trasimeno lake as well as towns in Tuscany like Siena, Arezzo and Cortona
